I discuss the spiritual awakening of Africans who are returning to their roots, specifically through the establishment of ancestral altars.

The Return to Ancestral Altars

I am observing a significant shift where my students, including those from the Songwe region, are actively seeking to reconnect with their lineage. I recently guided two students on how to collect soil from their ancestral land to establish a spiritual altar (madhabahu) in their own city. This process is a vital step in reclaiming a spiritual connection that has been dormant for too long.

A Global Movement of Reconnection

This awakening isn't just local; it is a global phenomenon within the African diaspora. While my students were at their grandfather's burial site—a place holding six graves—they encountered someone who had traveled all the way from America. This individual had sought permission to exhumate their ancestor to establish an altar and start a spiritual foundation elsewhere, proving that Africans everywhere are waking up.

Breaking the Sleep of Colonialism

For too long, we have been in a deep, "pornographic" sleep induced by colonial mindsets and the influence of the "Mkoloni." We have been conditioned to prioritize the "body and blood of the white Lord" over our own essence. Our minds have been drained like they were fed upon by vampires, leaving us disconnected from the very land we stand on.

The Paradox of Abundance and Poverty

We sit atop some of the most fertile land on earth, blessed with seasonal rains and every type of mineral and crop imaginable. Yet, we remain idle. We sit under the mango tree playing games while the wealth of our soil remains untouched. We have the resources to thrive, but our focus has been systematically redirected away from our earthly inheritance.

Distractions of the Modern System

The current system is designed to keep us as mere consumers through various "taxes." We pay with our attention and money to "head taxes," church contributions, and the obsession with football. We spend our time cheering for teams and buying jerseys—institutions built for consumers while completely losing touch with the physical and spiritual value of our land.

A Call to End the Foolishness

It is time to realize how we have been sidelined by these distractions. We talk about sports and religion while the earth beneath us is neglected. We must move past this state of "pumbavu" (foolishness) and stop supporting institutions that do not serve our growth or our reclamation of African identity and power.
